Our first stop was the Shedd Aquarium where we saw a dolphin show and
then we took a Wendella boat cruise down the Chicago River!
It was a beautiful day and, as you can see, everyone had a great time!

Monday: Pajama DayTuesday: Sports DayWednesday: Black-Out DayThursday: Culture DayFriday: Fairview Green DayThis week in Spanish class students worked in groups to prepare a restaurant skit entirely in Spanish. They performed their skits in class at a table we set up to make the setting more authentic. Students chose a background to enhance their scene and were extremely creative with the dialogues they created! They used vocabulary from our current chapter, focusing on how to order at a restaurant. Additionally, each group designed a menu to use during their skit that contained foods researched from a Spanish-speaking country of their choosing. Take a look at some pictures from our fun Spanish Restaurant skits!
The Fairview Middle Schoolers kicked off winter break with
an ice cream party and sing along to High School Musical! Have a good break and we will see everyone in 2017! Fairview has a new mural decorating our halls! The display of college pennants is located between the primary and middle school areas of the building and represents the Universities that all of our teachers attended. The journey to college and beyond starts right here at Fairview! Take a look at some pictures of our students and staff by our wonderful new display.
It's been a busy week in middle school! For Red Ribbon Week, the students received ribbons, pencils, and bracelets to pledge to be drug free, and dressed up to show their spirit. On Friday, we had a pep rally to cheer on our Chicago Cubs as they go into Game 3 of the World Series! Students had the opportunity to win Cubs gear by completing a trivia quiz throughout the week. And tonight, students will dance, eat, and play carnival games at the Annual PTA Halloween Party! Happy Halloween and Go Cubs Go! YOLO...Be Drug Free!!! Cubs Pep RallyRed Ribbon WeekMonday: Dream away and be drug free!Tuesday: Listen to your heart...be drug free!Wednesday: Drug Free in the USAThursday: Your future's so bright...you gotta be drug free!Friday: Blackout Drugs!!This year, the Class of 2017 were given a wonderful opportunity in participating in the first even Fairview Team Building Challenge Course at the Northbrook Park District. Our students, and staff who attended the trip, jumped right into a challenge course that focused on teamwork, respect, cooperation, and leadership. The 8th graders participation was top notch, and it was quite amazing to see many of our students leave their comfort zone, take a risk, and succeed. Upon completion of the field trip, the 8th graders were spoken to about their current role within the building. The theme that was taken away from the trip was the idea of "Be the Change". This mindset will continue to help promote positive change at Fairview, and also our community. Each student was given a bracelet from the company MudLOVE, that has this saying written on them. For every bracelet bought, MudLOVE donates a week of clean water to villages in Africa, which is a perfect example of, "Be the Change". The trip was wonderful, and one that we hope becomes a Fairview tradition!
To start off the school year, 8th grade Spanish students prepared for and then staged a phone conversation with a randomly chosen classmate. Students prepared possible questions and answers ahead of time and were then asked to have their phone conversation in front of the class in an "improv" setting. Students used various telephones during this activity, while pretending to have a real phone conversation. Students were graded on their questions and answers, as well as their ability to keep the conversation going using ONLY Spanish. Take a look!
The 7th graders enjoyed a donut breakfast, games or Just Dance with friends, and ended the morning with a softball game outside!
Have a great summer and we look forward to seeing everyone in the fall! During 4th quarter, twenty eighth grade students participated in Mix Master Mash-Up, a cooking competition style elective. During this time, four competitions were held; "Cupcake Wars", "Ultimate Cake-Off", "Chopped", and "Iron Chef". Students were divided into teams and given parameters for each competition. Thanks to some brave staff members, students were judged on their creations. A championship team was announced at the end of each battle. All of the students did a great job putting their previous cooking knowledge and creativity to work!
The Fairview Robotics Team is off to Louisville! This afternoon everyone gathered in the auditorium for a presentation and demonstration from the team. Then the students lined the hallways and gathered in the front of school to send the teams off!
Fairview is sending two teams to the world championship for VEX Robotics Competition- one boys team, called The Cinderalla Men, and and all girls team, called the MEKKAdamia Nuts. We wish both teams the best of luck!!! On Friday, April 15, the 7th and 8th graders ventured downtown to Wrigley Field to watch the Cubs take on the Colorado Rockies. Unfortunately the Cubs lost 6-1, but as you can see....... everyone had a "ball!"
To kickoff spring break, Fairview hosted its annual Falcon-Fossil Basketball Game! The Fossils took a win over the Falcons with a score of 61 to 44. The teachers and cheerleaders performed at halftime and Flight kept the crowd cheering throughout the game! Check out pictures and video from the face-off event!!!
