Last week the 7th graders took a trip to The National Museum of Mexican Art and then to Don Juan's Restaurant for tacos. At the museum, students were taken on a guided tour of the Día De Los Muertos Exhibit called "La Muerte Niña.” Students also explored 3 other exhibits at the museum which featured art from many different artists of Mexican descent. After the museum, we continued our day with a fun lunch which included tacos, quesadillas, and flan for dessert! The 7th graders had a blast learning about and experiencing Mexican art, culture, and food right here in Chicago!

Last week the 7th and 8th graders celebrated The Day of the Dead or El Día de los Muertos in Spanish class! Some of our cultural activities included tasting "Pan de Muerto" or Day of the Dead bread, decorating "calacas" or ceramic magnet skulls for students to bring home, and bringing in candles, flowers and picture memories for our "ofrenda" or offering. The day of the dead is a cultural celebration of life, where we remember those who have passed and is celebrated in various Spanish-speaking countries. Take a look at our Día de los Muertos celebration in Spanish class!
