Thursday, September 26 was the first annual trophy ceremony celebrating the culmination of Mr. Stoneberg's classes football unit. During the unit the class was broken into small teams of 4 or 5 students. These teams both practiced together and collaborated on a short quiz that focused route running, the line of scrimmage, turnovers, and the the general flow of the game (1st - 4th down & turnovers.) These teams played each other throughout the span for 4 days. Every day there were 2 rounds of play in which one team would be "sitting out" each round. When sitting out each student had a role to fulfill either as a game referee, score keeper, or sportsmanship referee. Throughout the season a Win/Loss/Tie record was recorded as well as the total points scored for each team and this was shared with the class on Google Drive. On the final day of game play the last place team was divided up among the other 4 teams still remaining. The top two teams went toe to toe in the "Championship Game" while the third and fourth place teams squared off in the "Bowl Game." The winners of each game were then awarded a traveling trophy for their team to keep! Both Mr. Stoneberg's 7th and 8th grade classes participated in this unit and both were awarded trophies - the following videos are from the 8th grade class!

On Tuesday the 7th graders went on a field trip to Fermilab in Batavia, IL. This field trip is called Particles & Prairies and is geared towards helping students to better understand the importance of prairies and prairie restoration. In addition to this field study component, the students are also offered a hands-on opportunity to work through a series of lab experiments. This year, we were fortunate to also make a visit to Fermilab's own bison herd! This week in Spanish 8th grade students presented "El Árbol De Mi Familia". This assignment required students to create a family tree and label their family members in Spanish. Each student created a poster or document and described 3 members of their family to the class, entirely in Spanish! Take a look at the pictures to see the creative way students designed their family trees and practiced the new vocabulary from Chapter 5A! |
