7th grade students participated in Snowflake, which was held at Fairview and sponsored by the PTA. Snowflake is a full day event with activities that include the topics of kindness, self-esteem, anti-bullying, including others, teamwork, and much more!
Picture
An outside speaker group, Imagination Theater, came in to present interactive role play skits that help students reflect upon and discuss the many themes incorporated into the day. Students were placed into small groups where they participated in activities, shared personal thoughts and feelings with one another, and debriefed the topics of the day. Students also participated in various team-building games with their assigned small groups. This year, we had eighteen 8th-grade peer mentors served as role models, leaders, and helpers for the day. They completed a training beforehand and demonstrated  leadership and kindness throughout the day.

Snowflake 2020 was a huge success. Students learned a lot about themselves and others, while having fun in the process! Thank you to all the teachers and students who made this day special for the 7th graders!

8th Grade Team Building Field Trip

9/23/2019

Last Wednesday, our 8th graders took an inaugural team-building trip to the Barrington Park District's Teams Challenge Course.  The trip's primary focus was to have the 8th graders recognize their importance as leaders of our school, but also as active community members.  Our trip focused on teamwork, respect, integrity, leadership, courage, and cooperation.

Now that the students have completed the course, they will be given a token of "unity" in the form of a bracelet.  The bracelet will say "fear not" and they are from a wonderful company called MudLOVE (www.mudlove.com).   MudLOVE's mission is to use their artistic passion to help raise money for the Central African Republic.  Each bracelet sold helps provide ONE WEEK of clean water to the people of the Central African Republic.

Check out some pictures from the adventure below!

7th Grade Operation Snowflake

We invite you to take a look at some pictures from our first ever Snowflake at Fairview event!

The 7th grade class participated in Snowflake, which was held at Fairview and sponsored by the PTA. Snowflake is a full day event with activities that include the topics of kindness, self-esteem, anti-bullying, including others, teamwork, and much more. An outside speaker, Mr. Ron Jakubisin, came in to talk to the students and give them their theme for the day "60 seconds is all it takes." 60 seconds is all it takes to make someone else's day or to make a positive difference. Students were placed into small groups where they participated in activities, shared personal thoughts and feelings with one another, and debriefed the topics of the day. Students also participated in various team-building games with their assigned groups for the day. Our first Snowflake was a huge success. Students learned a lot about themselves and others, while having fun in the process! 60 seconds is all it takes!

The 8th graders had a great time at the Barrington Teams Course in October! They had to work together to complete various challenges. After the trip, all the 8th graders received a MudLOVE bracelet with the phrase "be kind". This is a daily reminder to work together with others, show respect, and most importantly be kind!

8th Grade Ellis Island Simulation

10/31/2018

Many historians believe that 1 out of every 4 Americans can date their family tree through the immigration center at Ellis Island in Manhattan, New York from the 1890s to the 1950s when the doors shut for good.  Fairview 8th graders had the opportunity to "step" in the shoes of some of their relatives by taking part in a simulation of the immigration process at Ellis Island.

The day they arrived in America, our students dressed the part and came to school in costumes reflective of what immigrants might wear in 1910.  Students arrived in Ellis Island (the auditorium lobby) and hoped to get into America (the auditorium) by the end of the simulation.  Just one problem, they had to pass a medical test, citizenship test, and the strict workers that awaited them. They had to do all this with only 5 words of English and limited funds. But lucky enough for them, most, but not all students, got to the Land of Opportunity to fulfill their dreams in America. Many of the pictures capture the story of the day, but like anything in history, it is the stories that really capture the moment in time!

What a great first day back! There were so many smiling faces as students met their new teachers for the year! Mr. Lopatka started us off with an inspirational discussion on kindness and Mrs. LiRosi spoke about the updates for our school wide RAD program! After the assembly, the students went to a lunchroom orientation and followed an abbreviated schedule.

We look forward to an exciting and successful year!

Welcome back Fairview students and families!
Are you ready for an awesome 2017-2018 school year???
On the first day of school, the students listened to an inspiring speech from our new principal, Mr. Lopatka. Then, all of the middle schoolers went through
a "speed schedule" for an opportunity to meet all of their teachers and see
where their classes are located. We had a great first day and are excited for
a successful and fun-filled school year!
