On Friday, the varsity girls and boys volleyball teams challenged the teachers for the annual Falcon-Fossil match. The teachers won in the end, but a good time was had by all!
Last Friday, the 7th graders conducted the lab that is most anticipated every year… the frog dissection! Many students took on the role of surgeons, in addition to being scientists, and carefully dissected these frogs. In addition to learning the correct protocols for dissecting organisms, they were also able to successfully identify the internal organs. The 7th graders have been studying several of the human body systems for the past several weeks and so it was very exciting for them to see the frog’s circulatory, digestive, and muscular system firsthand! Some of the students even took on the role of being a lab assistant and was able to skillfully assist Ms. Che in the classroom, moving from group to group and lending a hand (or a scalpel) when needed.
The 7th and 8th grade students gathered in the auditorium to recognize the nominees for the Louis M. Blumenfeld Award as well as winners a the state Science Fair competition. Matthew G. and Elijah L. were co-recipients for the 2013 Triumph of the Spirit Louis M. Blumenfeld Award.
On Monday, the 8th graders took a field trip to downtown Chicago. We started off at the Shed Aquarium with a dolphin show and finished the day with a Wendella Boat Cruise on the Chicago River. It was a beautiful, sunny day and an excellent way to start off the graduation festivities!
Today Fairview partook in the Little 9 Track & Field Meet at Niles North High School. Athletes competed in running, relay, and field events. Everyone competed their hardest and there were a lot of wins all around!
